new adventures

A girl I met last year had said, "one can live in new york city... and yet still end up living a very small life here." She loved her life in the city, living in the east village, and made it a point to find interesting things to do... After living many years in NYC, she felt ready to move back to LA, to be closer with her family and relatives... but I could tell she loved the city, and that it was going to be tough for her to leave. Her statement lingered in my head ever since then... that simply choosing to live in one of the most exciting cities in the world does not preclude trite experiences...

About a couple of months ago, I began thinking of what I wanted out of my experience in NYC. Having the chance to live in NYC over the past year and a half has been a tough ride - low points being extended periods of feeling lost, numb and stagnant, especially during my winter hibernation. Was I really making the most of my time here in city?

Over the past couple of months, I've made it a point to venture out more, and be more open to what the city had to offer... video art galleries, pride weekend craziness, PS1 summer warm up parties, Coney Island - riding Cyclone rollar coaster, having picnic on the beach, summer concerts in the park, rooftop BBQ's, theater... all the things I didn't get to experience last summer when I was working 12-14 hour days and weekends.

People often ask me why I left LA, when I seemed very happy there, and had a great life. My answer is simple - I came to New York for adventure. The last couple of months have been happier times, and I look forward to the adventures ahead here in the city.
